Chen style Taijiquan is the original style of Taiji, and comes from Henan province in central China. Originally this Taiji was taught to Chen family members to help them defend their village against bandits in lawless ancient China. As time progressed and the fame of Taiji spread from the soft flowing movements of Taiji became more associated with health than combat.
Chen Taiji uses a characteristic spiral movement to develop whole body power that is rooted in the legs. Emphasis in our classes is on understanding and refining this quality of movement and strength. The result is a surprisingly complete workout which also improves balance, flexibility and body awareness.
